Windows to the Soul {32/52}

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Well.... Maybe I took that a little too literally in this case. lol

I think this is probably the most challenging project I've attempted so far and the one I'm most proud of. I was sitting on my porch one night last week, gazing up at the stars, and I started thinking about what I wanted to do for this week's project. I really liked the way the last one turned out, mainly because it was so different from what I've done before. I don't usually do close up shots, but in order to see the key in "Secrets," it had to be a close up. So I thought about that for a while and pondered on how to take that same concept and stretch it further. I love surrealism and have dabbled in it before, so when the idea of windows for eyes popped in my head, I was thrilled at the possibilites.

Initially, I had planned to have a flock of birds flying out of the windows, but that turned out to be flat and boring. After countless hours of tweaking and finagling, I eventually ended up with this. I kept the idea of a bird flying out of the window, but expanded the story a bit. Now you see a young girl longing for the freedom to fly as she watches her sweet bird, that she just released,  soar into the sky. I think if anything, this piece truly tells you who I am as an artist. You really are looking into my soul and seeing the things I think about. The longing for freedom to do what makes my heart happy and the exasperation that comes with being stuck in the real world, which involves fun things like work and paying bills. At least I can escape to my fantasy land on the weekends and swim around in my imagination until Monday rolls around once again.

I hope you enjoyed this one, as well as my other projects. I can't believe I only have 20 images left to create before completing this 52 week project. It has been quite the roller coaster ride, both emotionally and creatively. I have learned so much through this experience and if there is anyone out there who is considering this type of challenge, I give you these words of advice. First, be fully prepared for the amount of time you will be dedicating to this type of project. It will consume your life for an entire year, but it's worth it. Second, don't be afraid to push yourself. That is the only way we grow and grow you will.... In ways  you could never have imagined.
