I am so excited to announce the first image of the Zodiac Project! This is the Gemini.
I was approached by one of my best friends, Aundrea, who wanted me to do a Gemini image for her. I was so inspired by the idea that I decided to do an entire project around the zodiac signs. I announced the idea on Facebook, and much to my surprise, I was overwhelmed with volunteers to model for this project. I had no idea so many of my wonderful friends would be interested in working with me on something like this, and I thank all of you so much for that. I wanted these to be different though, so they will not be the typical depiction of the zodiac. Instead, they will be rooted in symbolism with a hauntingly beautiful feel to them.
Gemini's are said to have a dual nature, as symbolized by the twins. Never feeling complete, the sign of duality is always on the search for something, trying to find that one person or thing that will complete them. With that thought in mind, I decided to explore that duality with one twin living in a dark, desaturated world, longing to be on the other side of the mirror where the other twin lives in a beautiful countryside setting. Colors associated with Gemini are green and silver, so I used a green dress with silver etchings layered over the top of the image. Lavender and butterflies are also associated with this sign, so her twin is standing in a lavender field with a butterfly flying from her hands, symbolizing the air element.
I want to thank Aundrea Potter (the beautiful model), as well as Furbin Potter and Henry Fishburne for their assistance during the shoot. Without each of you, this image would not have been possible. I have to say, I am very proud of the way this turned out. After two full days of editing, and extremely fatigued eyes, it came together even better than I envisioned. I will be completing one zodiac sign each month, so stay tuned for the next one. :)
