The Dressmaker {51/52}

Two years ago, my life changed in ways that I could never have imagined. I married my best friend and I began my journey towards photography. I hadn't planned on getting into photography, in fact, my camera had been collecting dust for over year at this point. I was more interested in tinkering around with digital painting in Photoshop at that time. But first, let's rewind a bit to the wedding . . . and the dress.

I'm very non-traditional, so a big wedding was out of the question for me. I prefer to keep things simple, so we had a small ceremony on the beach with our closest family and friends. At first, the dress wasn't really all that important to me until I came across this one. I found it in a consignment shop on etsy and I loved the idea of bringing new life to this dress. Little did I know then that this dress would inspire me to walk down an unexpected path.

You see, the funny thing about this dress is that when I put it on, I didn't want to take it off. It reminded me of my youth when I used to play dress up and dream up imaginary lands. Now, as an adult, I am very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so it's not likely that you'll ever see me in a dress. But there was something about this one that made me want to wear it again and that's when my imagination began to work its magic.

"Butterfly Whisperer"

For me, this dress has been so much more than just a wedding dress. It has inspired many images, including my very first composite, Butterfly Whisperer. It's amazing how something so small can make such a big impact on your life. If I hadn't found this dress, would I have been just as inspired by another? Perhaps not. I like to believe everything happens for a reason. The inspiration to find the right path is all around you, but sometimes you just need a little nudge to move you forward. For me, it was a little dress and my best friend, Henry, who never made me feel silly for all my crazy ideas. It also helps to be in love with someone who is just as nutty as you are! Otherwise, what fun is life with a partner in crime?
