I think the best thing you can do for yourself is to let go of expectations. When you do that, you open yourself up to a world of endless possibilities. When I started this week's project, I already had an idea of how I wanted it to look. But when we first shot this image, it didn't have that special something I was looking for. So we shot it again and again, until finally, something magical began to form by the 4th set up. By letting go of what I expected this image to look like, the idea began to morph into something totally different, and it turned out even better than I imagined.
As this project nears its end, with only 10 weeks to go (I can't believe this is my 42nd image!), I've been thinking about what I want to do once it's over. The best thing about this 52 week project is that it's pushed me to experiment and figure out who I am as an artist. With each image, I discover a little more about myself. It's taught me to appreciate my failures and to persevere. Looking through my portfolio this year, there are certain images that I'm really proud of and I feel like I have a better idea of the direction I want to go in with my art. There are a lot of different techniques I want to experiment with, but the one thing I can say for sure is you can expect to see a lot more surrealism and black and white images coming from me.
