Illumination {43/52}

If you saw last week's image, you know that I've had butterflies on the brain lately. So how did butterflies lead to jellyfish? Well, when I finished Imaginarium, I started thinking about butterfly nets and thought it might be fun to play around with that concept, but I didn't want to be catching butterflies because that's far too ordinary. I thought about it some more and tossed around a few ideas. Clouds? No, that's not it. What about fish? Since my last name is Fishburne, I though that could be interesting....but I wasn't quite "feeling" it yet. Then my husband and I went to Halloween Express the day after Halloween to see if there were any good costumes for sale and I came across this one. I didn't think anything of it at first, but when I tried it on, it reminded me of floating tentacles like a jellyfish. That's it!  Pretty random, right? Or was it....

If you've been following my work, I'm sure you realize by now that I love symbolism and I use it a lot in my work. So I decided to look up the meaning behind jellyfish and what I found was really interesting....

If jellyfish come to you in your dreams; you are being asked to allow yourself to shine from within. Allow those around you to see who you really are and reach out to them with love and affection. Jellyfish symbolize the surfacing and healing of painful memories. It is recognition that you are now ready to deal with these aspects of yourself and move on through forgiveness and love. Seek the light in each memory and focus on what the lessons were in these memories. They are all valuable to you in some way.

This could not have been more on point! Through this project, I feel like I have healed in ways that I never thought possible. It's allowed me to open up my heart and forgive those who have hurt me, and after years of floating around in darkness, I have finally found my own inner light. Illumination is defined as understanding or spiritual enlightenment. So in a way, this image represents the capture of my personal illumination, despite the darkness of past.

Another fun fact... the sun sign for jellyfish is Virgo and I'm a Virgo!  Ironic, is it not?
