Delusions of Reality {11/52}

Am I right-side up? Or upside down? Or have I just gone mad!

The other day, someone asked me where my inspirations come from and at the time I didn't have a very good answer because I hadn't really thought about it. Each image is inspired by something different...sometimes it's a thought or a dream...sometimes it's a conversation with a friend...or a book or movie. So if I had to answer again I'd probably say....everything. There are so many things around us that can be inspiring if you open your mind to it. I think that is the key. Being completely open to it. This is my 20th image since I started this 52 week project, although I pretty much started over at the beginning of this year, so I'm not really keeping track anymore. My goal is to create 40 self-portraits and 12 zodiac signs by the end of this year so I can put them into a coffee table book as a year long creative journey. So far, I've created 10 self-portraits and 1 zodiac....so I'm well on my way. It's funny though, when I started this project I was worried that I might run out of ideas, but I've found that inspiration is like anything else. It just takes practice. Once you get the ball rolling, it's pretty hard to stop.

Earlier this week, I was asked to create images for an event with the theme of Optical Delusions. The event is inspired by M.C. Escher and Lewis Carroll. It's ironic because I had just watched Alice in Wonderland and was thinking of doing a series of images inspired by that story. So when they asked me, I was really excited about the opportunity. For the time being, I am sticking a pin in all my current projects to focus on this series. So prepare yourself, because I'm embracing my inner weirdness....and things are about to get a bit....strange.
